ANNOUNCEMENT FOR DOCTORAL CANDIDATE RECRUITMENT IN MARINE RESOURCE ECONOMICS AND MANAGEMENT

Nha Trang University (formerly the University of Fisheries) is one of the leading universities in the country in training, research and technology transfer in the field of fisheries, aquaculture and marine resource management. With more than 20 years of effective cooperation with Norwegian universities in training and research in fishery and marine resource management, Nha Trang University continues to receive support from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) to jointly operate the NORHED Phase II Project with her main partner, UiT – The Arctic University of Norway and two other partners, IPB University of Indonesia and University of Cape Coast of Ghana on “Ecosystem-based Management for Coastal Resources in Ghana, Indonesia and Vietnam”. The main component of the Project is the development of a PhD programme in Marine Resource Economics and Management to train highly qualified human resources for universities and research institutes in Vietnam, Ghana and Indonesia. With the approval of the Ministry of Education and Training for doctoral training in Marine Resource Economics and Management, Nha Trang University announces recruitment call for candidates in this PhD programme.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PROGRAMME

The first PhD programme in Marine Resource Economics and Management approved by Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training.

Within the framework of the Project NORHED funded by the Government of Norway. Professors participating in the programme coming from Norway, USA, Ghana, Indonesia and Vietnam.

The NORHED Project sponsors 10 full scholarships for lecturers of the partner universities (4 for Nha Trang University, Vietnam; 3 for IPB University, Indonesia; and 3 for University of Cape Coast, Ghana).

TRAINING PROGRAMME TYPE AND DURATION

The duration of doctoral training is 3 years for holders of a master's degree. PhD students can extend their research time to a maximum of 2 years.

English is used in teaching and writing and defending doctoral thesis.

The requirements for the doctoral thesis and the requirements for the dissertation defense are in compliance with the Regulation on enrollment and training at the doctoral level promulgated under the Circular No. 08/2017/TT-BGDĐT of the Ministry of Education and Training.

TRAINING PROGRAMME

Compulsory courses: Research Methodology, Natural Resource Economics.

Elective courses: Advanced Microeconomics, Advanced Econometrics, Experimental Economics, Valuing Environmental and Natural Resources….

Literature review essay, Thematic essays and PhD dissertation.

Admission requirements

A relevant master's diploma

A minimum score of IELTS 6.5 or score of TOEFL iBT 79

At least one scientific article published with the topic relevant to the intended area of study.
